COVID-19
INACTIVE - Regular care in times of COVID-19

Fred (67 years old)

Fred, a 67-year-old patient with known type 2 diabetes, presents to your office with a 4-day history of watery diarrhoea 5-6 times per day. Apart from weakness, there are no other symptoms. He tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 infection. On initial presentation, he was not febrile, tachypnoeic or tachycardiac. His blood pressure was 118/70 mmHg, and he seemed slightly dehydrated. There was mild generalised abdominal tenderness, but no rigidity or rebound. The rest of the physical examination was unremarkable. He takes metformin and canagliflozin (sodium-glucose transporter 2, SGLT2, inhibitor) and he reports fasting glucose levels between 4-8 mmol/l.
