COVID-19
INACTIVE - Follow-up of COVID-19

Andriy (48 years old)

Andriy, a 48-year-old male patient with a BMI of 32, recently survived COVID-19. He complains of hardness in the right upper abdomen, nausea, diarrhoea, and icteric sclera.

From his medical history you know that he was not hospitalised and had a moderate COVID-19 with fever, i.e. he took 3 g of paracetamol daily over the last 8 days. His medical history also shows non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).

His lab findings report abnormalities in the liver function tests (LFT):

  • Alanine aminotransferase (ALT): 3x the normal rate (3N)
  • Aspartate aminotransferase (AST): 2N
  • Alkaline phospatase (ALP): 1.5N

What is the most likely reason of the increased LFT in this patient?
