Bladder cancer
Follow-up surveillance regimens to consider for (very) high-risk NMIBC and MIBCExtra case 6: Beatriz (69 years old)
Beatriz, 69 years old, was initially diagnosed with T1 high-grade (HG) NMIBC 1 year ago.
She underwent transurethral resection of bladder tumour (TURBT). A repeat TURBT showed no residual tumour, and she subsequently received a complete course of BCG induction therapy. At 3-months follow-up and on subsequent evaluations during BCG maintenance, she has shown no disease recurrence to date.
During her most recent follow-up, she reported significant anxiety related to the frequent and invasive cystoscopies. Every time she undergoes cystoscopy, she experiences dysuria and bladder pain in the subsequent 24-48 hours. Additionally, the regular hospital visits have disrupted her otherwise active retirement, creating a substantial burden on her daily life.
