Acute COVID-19 in special populations

Svetlana (63 years old)

Svetlana, a 63-year-old female with a history of hypertension and hyperlipidaemia, presents to the family medicine clinic with a mild cough and fatigue. She was diagnosed with COVID-19 2 weeks ago and has been managing her symptoms at home. On examination, her oxygen saturation is 90% on room air, heart rate 90 beats per minute, blood pressure 160/100 mmHg, and respiratory rate 18 breaths per minute. Upon further questioning, the patient reports occasional shortness of breath and mild swelling in her ankles.  She has signs of respiratory distress, and her chest X-ray is normal. Her initial laboratory results are within normal limits, except for her elevated lipid profile.
