Extra case 2: Joaquim (69 years old)

Joaquim, 69 years old, is a retired accountant who spends his mornings reading the newspaper and walking in the neighbourhood park.

He presented with frequent urination and painless haematuria.

Assessment summary:

  • Medical history: hypertension
  • ECOG PS: 0
  • Cystoscopy: 1 papillary tumour of 4 cm at the left bladder wall
  • Urine cytology: HG UCa (according to the Paris system)
  • Conventional TURBT: resection visually complete, pathological review:
    • pT1 HG
    • Pure urothelial carcinoma
    • Unifocal, no concomitant CIS
    • No LVI
    • Muscularis propria present in specimen, uninvolved
  • CT urography: cN0, no concomitant upper tract tumour

He underwent a second TURBT, which revealed no residual papillary tumour.
